She was born 18 years ago with a heart condition known as Ebstein's Anomaly. They told us at that time that heart valve surgery would be necessary sometime in her late teens. At the age of 10 her body began to swell and it was decided that her heart could no longer support her in the condition it was in, and that she needed valve replacement surgery right away. We handed her over, smiling, innocent and surrounded by recently created stuffed animals to Doctors whom we felt could remedy the situation. To make a long story short, their diagnosis was wrong, they could not and we were presented with the option of heart transplant or expiration at age 10. The family, already impressed by the Spirit of God as to the available options, immediately consented and our Granddaughter was placed on the top of the national transplant list. Within 24 hours a heart became available (unheard of timing) and our Kelsee became the first Vanderbilt University Hospital patient to receive a heart transplant who wasn't admitted for that purpose.
That was 7+ years ago and we have gone through ecstasy as well as agony since that time. Kelsee has remained physically healthy yet her mood and emotional situation have been in a constant state of flux... It is not the simplest of situations to deal with a teen who's life is a continuing struggle to maintain anti-rejection status and who has difficulty feeling loved, needed and wanted, yet we believe God is faithful, His face is ever toward Kelsee and her well being is more His concern that ours. At present she is a headstrong teen who is convinced that only she is for her, and not passed spitting in your eye if she's a mind to. I once read that the teen years are so traumatic that, even though we think we can remember them and relate, we cannot. When we have traversed that crevasse it becomes a foggy memory that is never again relived nor seen in accurate focus. Parents can't truly relate, nor grandparents. You hold them in your heart, pray, and do as God's wisdom unfolds to you to do. We covet your prayers for our dear one's revelation of the love and grace of God, for He is our hope and provision both in want and in abundance....
